Meaning

An anemometer is an instrument that measures wind speed and wind pressure. Anemometers are important tools for meteorologists( those who study weather patterns.) The are also important to the work of physicists(They use it to study the way air moves.) 

Research

The most commonly used anemometer usually have three to four cups attached to horizontal arms. The arms are connected to a vertical rod. When the wind blows the cups rotate which then makes the rod spins.

The stronger the rod spins. The anemometer counts the number of spins, which is then used to calculate wind speed
